Midnite Blues Band

The Midnite Blues Band are a Bristol based six piece blues rock band playing covers and original material.

The band formed in 2012 and can play a wide ranging set of classic blues covers including Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Guy Davis, Wilson Pickett and T-Bone Walker to mention a few.  They also have written a selection of their own material ranging from the rocking ‘Moonshine’  to the funky ‘Mr 50’

Simon Deeming, Harmonica

Most rock and roll moment...
Don't really have a rock and roll moment... I have an uncanny knack of falling asleep in techno clubs.

Why and when did you start playing? 
Got bought a Muddy Waters CD and loved the harmonica sound more than anything.

Which famous musicians have you learned from? 
Trying to imitate the sound of his great harp players like James Cotton, Jerry Portnoy, Junior Wells, and of course Little Walter. 

Best thing about being in the band?
Playing the two Dan's own songs.

Favorite song we play?
Stormy Monday for its long harp solo!

Dannyboy Moonshine Jr

Calling Banksy a vandal at a party.
 
Why and when did you start playing?
When I was 14 I became obsessed with Dire Straits which gave me the inspiration to buy my first guitar and some neon sweatbands.
 
Which famous musicians have you learned from?
I really like BB King.... his style, vibrato and the way he mixes the major and minor scales to interpret the blues is an inspiration.
 
What is the best thing about being in the band?
Performing in hats.

Dan Sr

Most rock and roll moment
Random audience member coming over and shaking my hand after my solo in Hendrix's Red House. Best compliment ever!

Why and when did you start playing?
The film Crossroads. It's all about the blues and from there I found out about Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf etc.

Which famous musicians have you learned from?
Eric Clapton, BB King, John Lee Hooker, Chris Rea, Willie Dixon.

What's the best thing about being in the band?
Camaraderie and playing the songs of my heroes.

 
Favourite songs we play?
Goodtime Charlie. Just a great, great song.  Got My Mojo Workin'. Fantastic rhythm.

Jer

Jer wollen - lead singer. 

Best rock n roll moment....
Watching U2 at the Cardiff Arms Park.

Why and when did you start playing?
20 something years ago I started playing acoustic guitar and singing and  haven’t stopped since.

What famous musicians have you learned from?
I can't really say what inspired me... Mark Knopfler, Seal and Bono to name but a few.

What is the best thing about being in the band?
I previously was the lead singer and rhythm player in a rock band as well as the lead singer in a punk band but found my calling when I started singing blues..... So technically being introduced to the blues by the band.

Favourite song we play
That is a hard one.  I love the songs that both Dan Sr and Dan Jr  write so to difficult to choose between...... My favourite aside these is No Expectations by the Rolling Stones

 

Jim Le Bass

Jim Le Bass – bass guitar and backing vocals

Most rock and roll moment...
Playing in the support band to Cliff Bennet and the Rebel Rousers at The Cliffs Pavilion, Southend in the late 1960s.

Why and when did you start playing? 
My Dad had a guitar which I learned to play on and joined a group of my friends who had formed a band at school (1960 ish) and needed a bass player, I have been playing ever since.

Which famous musicians have you learned from? 
John Entwistle (The Who) as bass player, Eric Clapton for Guitar

What is the best thing about being in the band? 
Playing music I like with a group of like-minded people.
